Trip Overview
Women Travel for Peace creates unique travel opportunities for women from the industrialized world to work side-by-side with women from the emerging world. Together we support a local women’s program that will improve the lives of those women and their children.
In November 2008, four intrepid travelers joined Linda Rivero on an unforgettable adventure: Women Travel for Peace: Senegal. Together we financed and joined in the construction of a well for a rural women’s agricultural project in the tropical Casamance region.
Working, laughing and celebrating together with our West African sisters, the travelers were ‘touched,’ ‘liberated,’ and ‘grateful’ for the opportunity.
In November 2008, four American women came together: each wanted to do something to help women in a radically different culture from her own, though we ourselves were from widely disparate generations, opposite sides of the continent, opposing political parties, and with temperaments very nearly as different as temperaments can be.
We all came together, excited about the prospect of contributing something tangible to women in a developing country…and we all knew we were volunteering for an unpredictable adventure. Our nine unforgettable days are captured here, day-by-day, in our
